Hibernating?

Winter – the snow (and ice) covered fields lay before me as I gaze out the window on this sunny day. The white so clean and refreshing; winter so restful and beautiful. Since the last CSA delivery, things have slowed down and given our family time to relax and play together. While washing and packing continue a few days a week, we’re able to handle the work ourselves. Our 3-year old, Paul, pushes dirt and celery root trimmings with his bulldozer, while 1-year old John absorbs it all by peering over our shoulder in the backpack. But it’s also the peace and quiet of the farm that renews our spirits, allows us to think and create, gives us room to roam and explore that fills us during the winter months. Skiing, sledding, visiting friends/family, reading, cooking, crafting and such fill the other part of our time. Now, however, the busy time is about to start again! Once the New Year is welcomed in, we dive into the work of ordering seeds, catching up on bookwork, start field planning, develop our apprenticeship curriculum, and attend several workshops and conferences. Our 2010 CSA brochure is soon to be completed too. And, in just 6 more weeks, the greenhouse will be fired up. Hibernating is for the bears!
